Series: Long Journey
Just a few days – yet it felt like a small crack in everyday life.
Before: work, a lot of it. Thoughts, dense. Everything scheduled, everything flowing, but barely any space between the lines.
And then suddenly: an island. Wind. Grey. Rain. Crete welcomes us with a heaviness that almost feels calming.
Time stretches. Conversations flow, and we keep circling back to our time together in Canada. Friendship feels like something that doesn’t need a pause. Old connections from Toronto, new ones from L.A. … everything comes together. And in between the quiet moments of leaning back, the screen keeps lighting up – the next exhibition is already waiting. It’s not a complete switch-off, but a different pace, a pause for relaxation in a wellness hotel.
Then, almost seamlessly, everything changes. The sky bursts open as if someone had cranked up the color saturation. Neon orange, shimmering. A red that vibrates. The warmth arrives as unexpectedly as the trip itself. Suddenly, there is life, light, heat.
The days now wear different colors – louder, clearer, more direct.
And as everything lights up, planes fly overhead – thrilling my travel companion who has always been fascinated by them: low, close, almost surreal. For a moment, it feels like time itself has jumped.
This journey wasn’t an escape. But it was a departure. A short, glowing in-between.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need to bring color back into your own picture.
