Series: Long Journey

Lisbon captivated me instantly. The warm white glow of the streetlights at night, the steep streets and viewpoints overlooking the Tagus, or live jazz clubs like O Bom O Mau e O Vilão—I felt at home right away. It’s a city that can be explored beautifully on your own or shared with friends. Alongside its wonderful local fish restaurants, Lisbon now also offers many culinary highlights from all over the world.

This time, the trip was with my former flatmate. Usually, we travel with a big group of friends, but on this journey we finally had the time to talk about the years of our friendship and our outlook on the future. I already know Lisbon quite well from many visits, but Monsieur DJ once lived in the city and knows the special places far away from the tourist hotspots.

We mainly traveled there for the Sónar Festival. An electronic music festival right in the heart of Lisbon was something we simply had to experience together—and it turned into an incredibly special night filled with new influences and pounding basslines. Yet almost everything around it left an even stronger impression: the restaurant visits, drifting through cafés and bars, or long walks through Alfama and along Pink Street. And never without taking the ferry to the other side for a sunset with a glass of Vinho Verde.

A memory that will stay. Hopefully again soon, old friend.
